Interestingly, I read somewhere a while back that more battles in the War Between the States were fought in Missouri than in any other state.  No huge battles to be sure, but smaller skirmishes. Also, the first major land battle in the war was fought here in MO… the Battle of Carthage… which predates the Battle of Bull Run by some two weeks Amazing what you learn by paying attention in History class!! In Europe, a Yankee is someone from North America, where a Yankee is someone from north of the Mexican Border, where a Yankee is someone from north of the biggest Mason-Dixon Line, where a Yankee is someone from New England, where a Yankee is someone from Maine, where a Yankee is someone who eats his apple pie before supper…. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – People from MO are considered Yankees in the South, same as those Yankees from WV and KY…<g. Pete says: where a Yankee is someone who eats his apple pie before supper….

Have to disagree here… that’s someone who’s living life to the fullest.. goes for the best part first. Mark – eventhough my dad used to say the best part of any meal was the cigar afterwards… we disagreed also.

Response:

Does any state charge more for out of state vehicles than for state residents? Thanks for any answer. Florida gives discounts to residents.

Florida sells entrance passes (not required for overnite camping) to residents and gives camping discounts to residents who can prove they are genuine OFs (65+).  BTW, if you are touring Florida and want to duck into a few state parks for scenery, take a swim, etc., the Two-Week Family Vaction Pass is good value. Don’t overlook state forest CGs if you like rural camping, sometimes even with water/elec hookups available.  Many are real jewels, as are some county parks.

I remember the flap about Oregon.  Don’t know if I had to pay the higher amount.  But I think they quit when Idaho and other surrounding stated said they would reciprocate.  Might have been Washington that asked for the higher pay for out of state.  Haven’t camped in WA many years though. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – <Does any state charge more for out of state vehicles than <for state residents? <Thanks for any answer.      Oregon was, don’t know if they still are. The rational is that they don’t have a sales tax and gas taxes no longer support the parks, so that without the additional charge residents were actually paying more for the parks than non-residents. The policy raised lots complaints from folks who couldn’t understand that residents had paid part of the fee with their taxes.                                                                     Dennis
