Question:
Kool-ade has enough acid to clean the scale. Yes! I always use grape, but don’t know if it’s really better, or just so vile that nobody’ll drink it. Ken
Response:
Citric acid is a good, mild acid to clean lime. We used in in lines that went from steam to water and back in the sixties. Tom << Kool-ade has enough acid to clean the scale. Yes! I always use grape, but don’t know if it’s really better, or just so vile that nobody’ll drink it. Ken

I try to fill my water tank from a faucet in my garage that is inside my water softener loop so I avoid a lot of that accumulation. Also keeps my shower wall from getting crystallized. I live in an area that has very hard water. Absent the water softener idea, I’d be sure to drain that water heater after each use. Do your water heater in your home also but do it twice a year. It builds up there too. Nate
Use Meguiars Boat/RV Cleaner Wax on that shower stall. You won’t believe how much work it saves. www.meguiars.com Lon

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – After our first trip in our 96 Terry 5er, I decided to drain the water heater because the water at our campsite was murky, After letting 95% of the water out, I started to notice all grades of trashy stuff coming out. I filled the tank and drained it again with the same result. (sometimes, chunks of unknown origin started coming out the size of moth balls.) I filled and drained about 3 times. I would not think this much stuff had accumulated in the tank in 6 years but… I hate to think we were bathing in that mess. I wonder if there is a cleaner/chemical that I could use to flush the thing properly. db I try to fill my water tank from a faucet in my garage that is inside my water softener loop so I avoid a lot of that accumulation. After you flush it out, put some white vinegar in there and fill it with water. Let it sit for a few hours and it will loosten all the remaining crud off the walls. Then as prev post drain every time you get back. Leave the drain open too, just put a sock or something over it to keep the critters out. -Chr$

Don: The best thing to do once you get it cleaned out is to get a petcock and drain the WH after each trip. That’s what I do and it only takes a few minutes. Mike

I have the Atwood water heater and draining it by itself does not really help anything. There is still quite a bit of water in the water heater tank after draining it. One has to insert a small hose into the drain hole to flush it out. This loosens and flushes out the accumulated crud from the bottom of the tank. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Don: The best thing to do once you get it cleaned out is to get a petcock and drain the WH after each trip.
