Thank you, Doomaz, for the reference. However, before Osborn responds with his typical rhetoric about "misinformation", let me state the disclaimer regarding the page your link refers to. DISCLAIMER: "Although every effort has been made to insure accuracy of data, RV Safety assumes no responsibility for any misstatements which may have been made. This chart is not intended to provide all regulations on the subject. Check with the individual states if you’re not certain of the laws. As new information is made available to us, we’ll make it available to you." The above disclaimer is posted in bold print just above the info regarding passengers in towed vehicles. The business of riding in towed vehicles may be seen in a similar light as towing doubles – not illegal in all states, but unwise under all conditions in any location. Simply because it’s legal somewhere doesn’t mean that it’s a smart thing to do. My position is to never allow any living thing, other than a plant, to ride in a trailer while it’s being towed…period. — Ram RV Safety www.rvsafety.com

It would depend upon which state you’re in. The laws vary by state. Some, like CA, allow passengers in 5th wheel trailers only, and then there must be reliable two way communication with the tow vehicle operator. As others have indicated, what’s legal and what’s prudent/wise are two different things. Mike

Do you mean traveling on the public roads or on campground roads from the office to your campsite? Neither one shows good judgement, IMHO, unless of course you keep your seat belt on. <G –RW

In most states, yes. Not only that, but the motion sickness will get you every time. Been there, done that, when I was young and stupid. Am not young anymore. Tom

Are you really sure you want anyone back there in the event of a accident ???? Any kind of impact another vehicle puts on that trailer is going to send anything & EVERYTHING flying all over the place in a trailer. Plus on a broadside accident – there is a likelyhood of the trailer being rolled on it’s side. No one ever plans on being invvolved in a accident – but they can & do happen.
Response:
What about horse trailers with a horse and trainer on board? Any exceptions there? Altough I hope they are not coming to camp next to me.
